The Cloud has forever changed the way that startups and internet-scale companies deploy and manage their infrastructure. An interesting trend is that a growing number of small and medium business are also moving big chunks of their IT infrastructure to the cloud, but their decision is not driven by features traditionally associated with big deployments such as elastic compute and storage capacity or capex/opex concerns. Instead, they are leveraging open source and the automation capabilities from leading public Cloud vendors to solve down-to-earth, everyday problems while saving money in the process. This session will cover some of these trends and provide specific examples, based on our experience at BitNami as one of the leading providers of cloud images for AWS and VMWare and providing the packaging infrastructure for most of the leading commercial open source companies.
